General InformationSt. Andrew's is an 8 bell tower, situated on Church Street in Ampthill. We are part of the Biggleswade District of the Bedfordshire Association of Church Bell Ringers. (For the Biggleswade District Newsletter and other information please go to The Clanger page). Pictures from 10th July 2008 here News update, 9th July 2008: Taylors arrive tomorrow morning to start taking everything apart! Thank you to those who have volunteered their assistance for the two days this is happening, we are very grateful and really couldn't do it without you. We still need to raise more funds to pay for the project - thank you to those who have already donated money. Hopefully the upcoming publicity will help - we will have a display at the Ampthill Art Festival (starts this Saturday), there will be an item on BBC Three Counties Radio early tomorrow morning and hopefully Look East will be visiting the church tomorrow! We are now looking forward to getting the bells put back together again, this is planned for the end of August. Also, the Ampthill Art Festival is donating part of their proceeds to our repair fund. The festival is on from Saturday the 12th to the morning of Tuesday the 15th, in the Old Court House on Church Street in Ampthill. Newsflash, April 2008: Following our annual inspection, the Ampthill bells will be silent until we can get some necessary repairs done. Apart from the two lightest bells being installed in 1981, very little work has been done on the bells since the 1890s, so we can't really complain! We will need to raise some funds before the repairs can be done - if you would like to make a donation please send us an email. On Saturday 8th March the first full peal since 1996 was rung at Ampthill by a Bedfordshire Association band. Details here.
